EASY KNIT SHAWL
(Not too long in the back, but long enough to cover arms and tie in front) Materials: Worsted weight yarn, about 18 oz. 1 29" circular needle , size U.S. 11
Gauge: 7 sts = 2 inches
Finished size: Measures about 25 inches long from back of neck to back bottom tip. And about 86 inches wide across top wide part.
Directions: Beg at bottom of shawl, cast on 2 sts.
Row 1: Knit in front and back of first st, k 1.
Row 2: K across
Row 3: Knitting across, inc in first st, k 1, inc in last st.
Row 4: ( and all even numbered rows) Knit across
Row 5: Knitting across, inc in first 2 sts, k 1, inc in last 2 sts. ( 9 sts) Row 6: K 1, inc in next 2 sts, knit across to last 3 sts, then inc in next 2 sts, k 1.
Row 7: Knit across.
Repeat rows 6 & 7 until about 285 sts on needle or about 88 " wide, ending on a k row.
Bind off in Knit st. Optional shell border:
With size G crochet hook, start at one end of wide part, join yarn at corner: *ch 4, slip st in 4th row downwards ( or 4th st), * repeating between *'s around one side, then up other side of shawl. Fasten off.
